Nannette Y. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, CA. Growing up in the city of Oakland was a great experience for an artist .There was the sound of music and families in the neighborhoods in the middle and late 1960’s. The air was clean and the sun so bright. I would sketch whatever and whoever I could.
After graduating from California College of arts and Crafts 1980, raising a daughter, A hair stylist for 17 years and teaching high school for 7 years (Special Education), I found myself missing something, that was my passion for art. It was after my move out of the Bayarea that allowed me to recapture my passion to fulfill my life long dream of being a full time artist and art teacher.
“ I paint and create my art work using oil paint / recycled paint and acrylic metallic’s I am called the “Green artist that paints “Blue People”.
I have recycled my paints since 1993. I enjoyed watching the paint grow into mounds of hard colors and this recycled paint has allowed me to sculpt the hair on the characters I paint. I help save our environment by never throwing away any paint.
I am being creative and re-using it.
After praying to God for a vision, my vision came in a dream in 2006 to paint people from inside out using primary colors Blue, red and yellow in 2006; Blue represents, trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth and heaven.
Blue is the beginning of life.
Blue is the color of our blood before oxygen.
Red is the color of our blood after oxygen.
Yellow is for our aura and energy The universe which surrounds us, the sky and the water are blue. I believe that black radiates when used with color. I enjoy using the negative space, a touch of cubism, texture and geometric shapes in my paintings.
